C3 68 BB fusible link and Battery question

As i was working on getting my 68 BB out after a few years i noticed a few mysteries. The first while under the car at the starter I noted that on the main wire the runs up to what I assume is the fuse block in the interior a new wire ( coming off of the starter solenoid). It is very obvious it is not the original - so a good assumption is that it was replaced by a previous owner. So now the question comes _ it has NO FUSE LINK - this must be corrected >> so where do I get one and what is the best method to install?

Now the second question;it about the battery. it is old and surely not a reproduction, which is ok by me >> the question is what is the "correct/best CCA rating" battery to use for now? the people at the local auto parts stores look at me like I am crazy when I asked them.

    thanks for the replies

A fusible link is nothing more than a wire of 1 or 2 sizes smaller than the wire it protects.

As far as a battery goes, you need a group 24. I'd get one with the highest CCA rating you're willing to pay for. My recommendation: a Delco 24-7YR with 700 CCA.

Last time I had occasion to look fuseable links were available at your FLAPS in bubble packs. You will have to know what size (amps) you need. A little creative wire splicing will fix it right up.

I am not necessarily recommending NAPA, although I buy a lot of stuff from them. This is just a convenient way for me to illustrate how readily available they are
