I just bought a cap (on ebay), clearly not configured as original, but with the thought of using it and saving my original cap. The issue is that the force required to install the cap is likely enough to tear the expansion tank off it's mountings. Does this just sound like a defective cap or has anyone else had such an issue....or, is there a good place to buy an AC307 which is more likely to work?

All I can tell you is that some of the GM replacements, especially the "small ear" stainless steel units, had the same problem to one degree or another. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
