Test stand starting, I need a flywheel

I have a rebuilt engine on a stand and would like to run the cam in on a test stand, but don't have a flywheel to start it. What CHEAP flywheel can I use to start this thing. Does it go by tooth count? or diameter? Will an automatic flexplate work? What years should I be looking for?

    Thanks

    Robert -

Assuming you're talking about an original manual transmission setup, you need a 14" diameter 168-tooth flywheel and C1 bellhousing (the starter bolts to the bellhousing on a C1, not to the engine, and only engages the 168-tooth flywheel).

What years and models can I find 168 tooth fltwheels? Will all 168 tooth flywheels work?

The c-1 and c-2's had 153 tooth flywheels. You could use either size as long as the bellhousing and starter are correct for the flywheel.

          Bob------

          C1's used a 14", 168 tooth flywheel.

            My error
As long as the flywheel, bellhousing and starter are the same size it should work.

Any 168 tooth flywheel should work with the stock bellhousing and starter?

Yes, as long as it's for a 2-piece rear seal crankshaft (pre-'86).
