    Re: NAPA Gold Oil Filter

I run a WIX 51069 or NAPA equivalent. I ran the truck filter for time on my 68 BB. It hangs down exactly as far as the oil pan. I got nervous and quit using it when I thought about how vulnerable it looked hanging down so far. I once tore apart a Fram, and never thought about using one again.

who sells WIX among common vendors? Wal-Mart, Auto Zone, O'Reilly's? Is WIX priced the same as NAPA Gold?

WIX (and Baldwin) marketed themselves for commercial/industrial applications and can be found at auto parts stores and commercial suppliers. I've never found WIX filters at the discount vendors that you mentioned. However, our new O'Reilly's store might have them. Lately, I try to buy items like this on line. Since NAPA sells reboxed parts, some of their filters are WIX. There are only a handful of on shore filter manufacturers, but it's very difficult to tell who makes what unless someone has seen it or someone lets out the secret. In a plant audit that I conducted many years ago of a Purolator facility, I saw them producing oil filters under the names of Purolator, Motorcraft, Pennzoil, Lee Eliminator, and a few others. All of them were the same filters, they just painted them differently. This may have changed by now.

Pricing should be comparable. Six is available online from some vendors.

I get all my Wix filters from RockAuto.com. Including shipping, they're cheaper delivered to my door than I can buy them locally.

$6.99 NAPA gold #1061 and $7.51 WIX #51061 at O'Reilly's locally. Since NAPA is closer, that's where I went this afternoon. Thanks all.

Just for comparison, I purchase a WIX 51069 at O'Reilly in the Cincinnati Ohio area for $6.29.

And where I live the NAPA labeled WIX is a few dollars cheaper than the WIX at O'Reily's.

O'Reilly's has them (where I live) but you have to ask for them--they are not out on the shelves in the store.
