    NAPA Gold Oil Filter

It's time to change oil on my three Corvettes and rather than use the old FRAM PH-5 (lately too many negative and scary reports), I thought I'd switch to NAPA's Gold since they're close by and it would be very convenient, I think someone like WIX makes it for them. Can someone give me the cross listing (FRAM PH5 >NAPA Gold)--I trust you guys more than the Gomers at the parts counter.

I would suggest just using a WIX filter, they have a good reputation. Your local parts store should carry them.

I have been using a AC Delco PF-2232 filter in my 68, 70, and 85 Corvettes for years. This filter is used on GM diesel engines. Do not know if it is any better than filters that have been mentioned. Is has a higher weight than the standard AC Delco filter for my 68,70. and 85 Corvettes.

I used WIX for years in race car and have been using NAPA gold for last two years. They work and are very high quality.

The difference in any of these filters is the element material and its efficiency in holding particles down a certain size. Sure, there are differences in bypass valves, but I doubt that any of us will leave a filter in long enough for a bypass valve to be needed. I've heard a lot of discussion about problems with filters, but I've never seen a clogged filter, even on some of the junk that I've bought.

Jerry, what WIX number? And what NAPA gold number? I ask because NAPA's website lists #1069, which is not the same as Dick Whittington's suggestion. By the way, I have a '71 small block and a '67 small block as well as a '67 big block--on both of the latter I installed a spin-on kit (temporarily of course, for conveniences sake).

If you look, the NAPA site mentions both numbers. 1060 being the most popular. The 1060 is about 3/4 inch longer than the 1069

I use the WIX 51069 filter on my '64 300HP. I believe, but not sure, that the 51069 is one of the larger spin ons that fit the small block. There are a lot of different filters that makes it confusing. I hope someone else can provide additional details. I believe this discussion may be similar to the oil types.

Now it begins to make (more) sense, especially since we know (thanks Mr. Whittington) that WIX and NAPA come from the same faucet. I'm referring to the last four digits--1069--in both. I also believe that there are short and long filters for most applications (the rest of the specs being the same), depending on space considerations--foremost, an exhaust pipe right below the filter! I prefer the long version whenever I can use it, but it probably makes a negligible difference.

OK, if you prefer the long one, get a Wix 51794 or equivalent It is the truck filter. Run it on the '72 big block Vette and have for years
