    1968 radio bezel

By original radio bezel broke at the narrow spot above the instrument cluster on one side. Since it is a one year only part I want to keep it. Is there a good way to fix this? I tried some JB Weld but that did not hold and it cracked when I installed it. I did not want to mess up the paint but that may be necessary.

Does anyone have experience n fixing these?

Way too much experience here. Gorilla super glue gel works great. Jb weld cracks right away. You'll get good at painting this part also.

Russ, I fixed mine several years ago. I do not remember what adhesive I used, I think it was an epoxy for aluminum that I bought at a hardware store. If I was fixing one today I might try one of the urethane adhesives that are used to bond steel body panels on cars by the collision repair folks. I also took some flat aluminum, about 1/8" thick IIRC and made two triangular shaped gussets which I glued into place behind the break to provide some additional support in that area. Seems to be holding up well. I unfortunately did not take any pictures of the repair. The area where the gusset fits is in the right angle formed where the bezel thins out and the flanges that support the wiper switch bezel are located. Once the bezel is installed and the wiper switch bezel is installed the gussets cannot be seen.

Just in case you are having problems: The bezel is grounded and the crack can cause the wiper switch to not complete the circuit. I did alot of unnecessary work before I found that cause to the "wiper is not working" problem. I had to ground both pieces of the bezel

Thanks. Only one side of the bezel is broken but I will keep the grounding problem in mind.
