1986 C4 OEM battery

Need to buy new Delco battery subject only to the 40% standard deduct.
Would like to have photo of the OEM battery and/or decal(s) for reference. Anybody got one?
Does the top have 2 "humps" or is it flat.
Is the 'eye' in the decal or the other side?
Advice re the correct battery to obtain will be appreciated.

Reference to the correct original battery configuration is not really going to help you in the selection of current Delco battery-------none of the current Delco batteries have a configuration anything like the originals. My recommendation would be a Delco 7YR-75.

I believe all current Delco batteries are 50% deducton, not 40%.

Norm Joe is correct buy the current Delco replacement and remove the carrying handle before judging

Thanks, Joe. Checked on the Delco site and they spec 6YR-75 for an 86. Guess they've reduced the guarantee by a year. Figures!!!!

I'd check with a Delco dealer to see if the 7YR-75 is available. The 6YR has also been available for quite some time. However, the 7YR comes with a 5 year free replacement warranty. So, if anything goes wrong with the battery in the first 5 years, you get a new one at no change (then the 5 year warranty starts again so you're better off if something does happen to the battery in the first 5 years). The 6YR and lower batteries have a lesser warranty.

Addendum----I checked and a 75-7YR is still available from Delco (I had the nomenclature reversed which I always seem to do for these Delco battery numbers)

It's possible that they've trimmed the free replacement period by now; 5 years is pretty generous. However, the 7YR will always have the best warranty and doesn't really cost that much more than the 6YR.

Hi Joe-- thanks for your help with my battery and muffler questions.
FYI, the latest on Delco batteries is as follows: Delco no longer offers pro-rated warranties. They have changed to timed full replacement warranty. The spec'd batteries for an 86 C4 are: 75PG (42 month free replacement) 75PS (30 month free replacement) and 75PS (18 month free replacement) Prices are $109, $99 and $89 respectively from our local Delco store.

Our good friend Dave Brown has campaigned his 1986 coupe thru to the McClellan award. In doing so, Dave dummied up an current AC Delco replacement battery to look like the OEM battery. In doing so, Dave received full credit for an OEM battery at the 2010 Charlotte National.
