    Paper element for 63-65 fuelies?

Searched the TDB and found a thread from a couple of years ago about the Wix 46418 filter being the best replacement paper filter for these cars. Is that still the case? I am looking to run with a paper except when I get the car judged. looking for feedback on fit and performance issues if any.

John, Wix is a premier filter for any cars. I use her at my shop. They cost a bit more but do the job,

      I use the K&N
      RX-3990 Cone
Part RX-3990-1 Product Specifications Product Style: Round Tapered Universal Air Filter
Base Outside Diameter: 6 in (152 mm)
Flange Inside Diameter: 3 in (76 mm)
Flange Length: 0.938 in (24 mm)
      Flange Type: Centered
      Height: 8.688 in (221 mm)
Top Outside Diameter: 4 in (102 mm)
      Top Style: X-Stream
      Top Material/Finish: None
      Filter Material: Cotton Gauze
      Filter Re-Oiling Amount: 1.5 oz (44 ml)
Footnote 1: Filter has molded-in velocity stack
      Weight: 1.4 lb (0.6 kg)

Direct fit however some experts feel it allows to much air to flow or put another way it does not filter the smaller particles. Since my 64 is not a driver any longer that does not concern me - so you decide.

John, I have been using the paper replacement for a couple of years and 6000 miles and found it to be free flowing, long lasting and fits well as it is a slight press fit against the rubber. I am glad John the FI guru told us about it.
        It's a good life!

John, that is the WIX filter number I switched to. Seems to do the job and it fits. Scott

HI Gang, I am back from Spring Carlisle and trying to catch up on the PC.
John, I am glad you brought this subject up. You see I gave you all a better fitting Wix, etc filter than the 46418. But I lost the part number of it.
Better means it was a tad long filter and tighter fitting.
Anyone know of a better fitting filter than the 46418??. It's a rather loose fit.
Now my friend Dennis Pacy takes the 46418 (I think) and glues a thin round filter to that filter so the assembly takes up the entire inside of the canister.
Meanwhile it was nice that Alan gave us the info on the K&N but you should be able to buy a paper filter for 20 bucks or so and the FI will like it better. JD

Alan, Just referred back to the old post you provided and see that even the current repeat subject of June 15th post does not give us another element besides the 6418.
There is a little better fitting element out there gang. Some of your are using it. How about sharing the number with us please. Thanks, John

I ended up using the Wix 46418 and I can tell you it seems to be a perfect fit. Fits snug. Seals against the inner tube very nice. I can force down some but choose not to. I keep it right up against the mating tube flange.
