    First judging on 63 Conv.

A friends 63 was judged yesterday by the St Louis Chapter . It was a fun day , Everybody was nice and the event was well planed . The car did get a top flight . My question is two things were brought up ,one is in the judging manual and is not correct . It says 63,s after vin # 11,000 had light gray fiberglass . This car is a St.Louis car and is # 20937 and has light gray doors with the rest being white glass including the floor pan & inner fender skirts. I installed a new left qt. panel ( light grey G.M part ), all other panels are white as built . I do have photos of it stripped . The next question is not in the manual . The head lamp mounting panel has two large center holes used to mount the header cross flag emblem .
This car has a lip or a flange area around the inside of the hole . One of the judges said it should be just a hole with no flange . I know its the original . He also said The rivits at the hood strikers were wrong ? again its the hood it was built with .Does anyone have any thoughts on this . Thanks Bill

Re: First judging on 63 Conv.

    Bill,
Currently I am working on '63 # 94XX. The body is unhit and has no signs of any panel replacement what so ever. The only 3 pieces that are light gray glass are the hood surround and both rear door post covers (lower part of B-pillar, where door striker is mounted.) Other than that the entire body is "white" (Ivory). I am not a '63 expert. It is my understanding that over time more panels were produced in light gray and introduced into production. Which ones- and at what time, I don't know. The header bar from 1963-1966 typically have emblem holes with a flange/lip. Even very early '67s used a '66 carry-over headerbar that was re-punched to fit the '67 emblems (studs are closer together.) The headerbars with flat holes typically are '67 production or service replacements.
    Hope this helps.
    Marco

Bill , I have a friend with gray fiberglass and his Vin is about 15xxx I am not sure theres even a white panel on his car. and he has no tool box tray. does this car have a tool box?

And my 63 vin 106xx is a mix of white and gray panels with tool box trays.

I never quite understood the rivit thing on the hoods big rivits or small rivits?

April built 63. All gray except the rear deck. Holes should be a flange as you said.

I think the header bar holes should have a flange or lip. Bob

I do not mean to change the thread topic, but can someone post a few pictures of cars with both colors of glass.

I have had two 63. Both white glass. I have worked on 8 to 10 more without paint. All were white glass. What are the odds of all the cars I have worked on all being early cars?

My car is a March 18th build. Tail panel, both door striker panels, and drivers side door hinge panel were light gray.

                          Bill,

First you need to get the files off your camera and onto your computer. Once you have that done, read this FAQ:
