Installed a new wiring harness in my 58. Two questions regarding the two dash ground wires: 1. I am unable to access the speedometer screws, due to the cramped space, to mount one of them, is there an alternative mounting place(s) that is more accessible and still remain functional? For example, I noticed that there is a screw on the tachometer with a small rubber washer underneath it in the vicinity of the light. 2. Also, it appears that the other dash ground connects to the heater/clock console according to my reading of the AIM (there is a mounting boss and screw on the back) - is that correct? Since the console is mounted in the fiberglass and has no contact with the metal components, not sure how that would function as a ground. Thanks for your input. Richard

Richard,
I wired my 60 not to long ago. It was difficult, but with the steering wheel and the underside steering column cover removed I was able to get the ground attached.
For the heater control clock panel, yes the ground attacheds to a screw on the back side. Since the panel is mounted to fiberglass, the ground wire is necessary to provide ground to the panel for the clock, and it also provides ground to the heater speed control cable outer sheath as I recall. That is how the heater motor gets ground since the heater housing (including the motor) is mounted to fiberglass. Or at least that how I remember it from 3 or 4 months ago.

Re: C1 Harness Wiring
Don, Thanks for the info. I find that even with the cover removed there's no room to get a tool in there to loosen the speedo screw to attach the the ground wire. I thought another bolt or screw that is more accessible might be a substitute. Richard- Top

Re: C1 Harness Wiring
If you get under to test continuity with a VOM meter you can test the tach screw you mentioned. Test between the screw and anywhere else on the gauge cluster housing. If you don't care about judging, you could mount the ground wire under one of the bolts that hold the gauge cluster to the dash area.Don Harris
