    Glue recommendation

The attached photo is the undersurface of the radio speaker screen for my 66. As you can see the attachment on the left side is loose. There does not seem to be enough material left for me to "peen" it over with a punch (an I don't want to dent the surface side with a hard blow anyway) so it would seem to me that some type of glue would be in order. Any ideas of what would bind to this material?
    Thanks,
    Joe

For this, I think you could use just about any epoxy. However, if it were me, I'd use JB Weld. "A little dab will do 'ya"

        Joseph,

I had the same problem , and did just as Joe and Don suggested .

I used more than a dab however .

Joe, I have the same problem and have been thinking about doing one of two things (or both). I may try to solder it with lead. Platers use lead to fill pits in pot metal and it will also stick to the steel bracket. My other idea it to use a very fine drill bit, slightly drill into the center of the stake and carefully spread it with a punch or awl, ice pick, etc. I am leary of using any adhesive alone because this part is so difficult to get to when the adhesive finally breaks.

            Joe,
I'm working to day at re-doing my C3's Astrovent damper and thought of you/your issue while re-assembling. I can't quite see from your photo how much length you have remaining on the existing rivet . Is there enough to be able to capture it with one of these?

              Re: Glue recommendation

No Don, there really isn't. I almost had enough to bend a little over with a punch - the problem is that I don't want to hit it hard and damage the visible side of the screen. I put some JB Weld on it yesterday and it seems solid now. I plan to let it sit and then "challenge" it a little with my hand before installing it - it is a catch 22 - don't want to damage it but it is a pain to remove when all is installed (but not impossible as I have done it before when replacing the speaker on my 67.
Thanks for the idea though - that may come in handy on some other repairs.

I did not think of the solder - I wonder if it will stick. I used some JB weld yesterday and it seems solid now. Plan to let it sit another day then stress it a little bit.

For an application like this the JB Weld is going to hold for a lot longer than you're ever going to need it to. That assumes, of course, that you applied it properly by ensuring that absolutely no grease or oil was on any of the surfaces to be bonded and that the bonded surfaces were suitably "roughened" to allow the epoxy to get a "bite".

Think I did it all - but only time will tell - if it fails I am sure it will be "installer error".
