My early '63 coupe has the buzzer and hole in the tach housing for the wire, and I'm 99% sure that my 177XX Fuelie convertible does not. When in the model year was this change made? I also notice that Lectric Ltd doesn't acknowledge it in the catalogue and the harness I bought for the coupe doesn't have the wire for it made into the harness.

Re: Production dates for RPM warning buzzer on '63 solid lifter cars?
you can fabricate the harness yourself as i did with my december 62 built 63 fi coupe years ago. you won't be able to hear the buzzer as it 's noise is drowned by the engine. i believe there are numerous previous posts on this issue in the archives.mike- Top

Re: Production dates for RPM warning buzzer on '63 solid lifter cars?
Mike, I tried a search on this before I posted the question. I don't know what I did wrong, but didn't get any hits. I haven't used the search function here much and maybe an archive search is different from just searching the forum. I'll try it again. I wonder if Lectric Ltd has any interest in adding the wire as an option. I think I'll call 'em Monday and ask. I've got a complete, intact harness that I removed from the early coupe that they could use as a pattern. Since I almost burned the '69 L88 car to the ground with a faulty harness soon after I got it in the 80's I've been putting new harnesses in every one of my cars when I do 'em.
To be honest, I'd never heard of the buzzer thing until a couple of weeks ago when a friend searching for a 63 fuelie told me about it. I started looking at my stuff and was puzzled why my early '63 340 coupe had it, my 177XX fuel conv. didn't and didn't have the holes for it on the crossbar.
I also noticed that the red area on the late fuel car was more red than the early car, but figured that was because this one, with only 4K miles hasn't been subjected to the same fading that the 58K mile coupe has seen.- Top

Norris, the tach buzzer harness is a separate harness from the dash harness. Bob- Top

Re: Production dates for RPM warning buzzer on '63 solid lifter cars?
Bob, I guess that's another running change. I wish I could recall the VIN number on my early '63 and won't be back near it until Monday, but the pink wire is made into the dash harness and peaks out at the second group of wires exiting from the fuse block. Knowing it's power source now I guess it'll be easy to route it from the fuse block back to it's exit point, even if it takes some tape removal and rewrapping on the new harness to duplicate the original. I read through all the links posted above and reviewed the pictures showing the seperate harness. Obviously there's some incorrect information on the third one. I may add pictures to this on Monday showing the tach colors from the early and late two cars, the early harness and the tach redline colors. Thanks for all the replies.- Top

Norris,
I've never seen the buzzer harness as part of the dash harness.
If it was it would take 2 different dash harnesses depending on the engine installed. I'm pretty sure it was added just to the solid lifter cars (early).
