    Spare tire tub question

Are the midyear tubs different in overall diameter from say a C3? The one I have (which I thought may be correct) is TIGHT to fit a 6.70-15 tire on the stock 5.5" rim

    Thanks,

    Tim

    Tim -

The midyear and C3 tire tubs are completely different. If the 6.70-15 is a reproduction tire, it's quite common for them to be a tight fit in an original tire tub; DOT regulations affecting the tire manufacturing process require the tire to be inflated immediately after removal from the mold, which makes them slightly larger in diameter and section width than an original non-DOT 6.70-15 tire which was NOT inflated while still hot.

      John,

Yes, it's a reproduction Firestone. Any suggestions (air it down) etc.?

Tim just had the same problem with the Firestone 670-15 took a little air out and with a little force it went up, Dave.

Tim, I had a frenid do a litle research on the repro tires that are made today and it appears the only repro tire that seems to fit the mid year tire tubs are the BFG silvertowns. other wise the diameters were about 1/2 to 1 in in diameter to big.
