67 door jam color matches interior rather than exterior

A good friend of mine has a 67 BB convertible with a February 67 production date. The exterior paint color is Marlboro Maroon and the interior is all black.
The curiosity is that the door jam, inside where the door hinges mount, and forward part of the passenger door are black not Marlboro Maroon. The Driver's side door jam and door are Marlboro Maroon.
During the current restoration the dash was removed and the black on the passenger side extends behind the dash tabs. There is no evidence of any Marlboro Maroon paint behind the dash tabs. The body has no evidence of ever having been in an accident.
Has anyone experienced this anomaly?
Any thoughts or comments are most welcomed.

involved in an accident? was passenger side replaced by a used fiberglass from a black car? otherwise -unexplainable. possible? - maybe

I think it is very unusual and highly unlikely, but not impossible. They could have started shooting black, and then changed to maroon. You would have to do some intensive investigation to prove it.

I have found one car that went through the paint line one color, and the finish paint line another. It was a `72 Steel Cities gray car. It was painted silver on the first painting. Obviously the error was discovered when it came in for the final painting and the color was changed to Steel Cities.

It probably means that "Bubba" has given up on electrical and mechanical repairs and has transitioned into Fiberglass and Paint.

OH believe me, Bubba has been doing fiberglass and paint work for as long as there have been Corvettes.

Dan, Wayne and Loren, Thanks for taking the time to provide your comments. My friend has many years of experience doing corvette body work. This car happens to be one he has owned for several decades and is just now getting around to restoring it. The paint color anomaly I described has puzzled him for a long time and when he showed it to me I volunteered to post the question. I am going to pass your comments along to my friend and see if he can provide any more details regarding the history of the car.

A good clue, as to whether paint color is original or not, is what is the color of the overspray on the inside of the door and under the carpet along the door opening. The photo shows my Marina Blue paint along with the original door build number (413) which is also the same number on the rear bulkhead and right front floor pan. If yours is black on one side of the car with no evidence of maroon and maroon on the other then I'd have to say its original. The next question then would be, how did this body pass inspection??
