L-98 detonation

My 89 L-98 has a slight detonation in it under acceleration. it is real light but I can just barely hear it. I am running high octane un lead around 94, the timing is spot on set to factory specs. what could cause this?

All that is brand new - even new spark plugs.

It might be a problem with the knock sensor. These are fairly fragile pieces and can be rather easily damaged. Your application requires one GM #10456549, aka Delco #213-92. However, very light pinging may be normal and not indicate a real problem

Lyndon, Try retarding the timing 2 degrees. C4 original fuel injectors( if still there) can be a problem causing the car to run lean. Make sure there are no trouble codes stored in computer. generally a knock sensor thats bad will set a code. If you want to test the knock sensor, Its easy, use your timing light on a fully warmed engine and a few taps on the exhuast manifold with a wrench should show the timing retarding while watching the timing light. on marks.
