Re: 65 dead battery
Ronald, I would fully charge the battery and load test it, the battery may be going bad.- Top

Re: 65 dead battery
I always disconnect the negative battery lead when trailering etc. recently i noticed that after about 40 hours the battery is dead. this must mean that a device/gauge etc is drawing power and relying on a ground elsewhere ... but anyway to locate readily? other than measure DC amps and remove one fuse at time until it falls off? i am thinking the water temp gauge as i have seen it spike off scale from time to time but it is for a matter of seconds then returns to normal. happens with motor cold and off so i am suspect about the gauge but can’t believe it could kill the battery.
Cant put a disconnect on the positive terminal due to interference with the firewall electrical connections.
I suspect a faulty battery.Last edited by Jack H.; April 15, 2013, 04:29 PM.- Top

Re: 65 dead battery
I bought a Restoration Battery for my 69 and it was dead in one week. Although they promptly replaced it, you never know about a "new" battery.- Top

Re: 65 dead battery
Ronald, as Jack pointed out your OP is not clear on whether or not the battery goes dead before or after the negative cable is disconnected. If it goes dead when it is connected, then the easiest way to find the drain is pulling fuses like you mentioned. If it goes dead 40 hours after disconnecting the negative cable then it is the battery. As for a mystery ground, something has to touch the negative side of the battery to form a circuit where any ground would come into play.
