    Restoring 1960 Grab Bar

I removed the Al Knoch cover I installed on my grab bar 15 years ago and found the original grab bar cover in place. I can see deteriorated, black, sticky foam sticking out of the ends of the cover. Was the foam and cover one piece that was slid over the steel bar. The foam could not have been very thick when new.

I don't see repro foam advertised with any of the major vendors. How would I restore the grab bar with some type of foam that would be similar to the original? Any ideas?

    Joe,
My experience is leave the old cover in place. The new cover doesn't fit tight and you will need the extra thickness.
