    1963 Powerglide kickdown linkage

Can someone post a closeup picture of the upper rod (carb to bellcrank) please - assembly manual and service manual pictures are not very clear.

My car had a homemade (Bubba) rod on it, so I ordered the correct(?) replacement. When I attach the swivel to the bellcrank I can't insert the adjustable end into the hole in the carburetor linkage due to a bad angle. Carb is correct for a 300hp PG car. I can get it through from the backside, but at wide open throttle it then hits the fast idle adjustment screw. Almost seems like that rod (12 1/2" long) needs to be bent to line up properly.

BTW - I have read the adjustment procedure in the service manual so that's not my question.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kent maybe a pic. or two of your situation might help. I would think its pretty straight forward. Are you missing the spacer plate between carb and manifold?

The attached picture shows an approximation of the bend your are talking about for the kickdown linkage. I know for a fact this is not an original rod to the car pictured and the bend was done to make it work. The engine pictured is a 1961 283 with a correct WCFB Carb but a later vintage (1964) intake manifold and an incorrect setup for the vacuum line to the transmission. I do not know what is "factory correct" and am only posting this picture to help illustrate what I think your are experiencing with your car. Hope this helps.

Don't have access to my digital camera right now and yes I have the spacer in place. If viewed from the top the rod angles slightly from the bellcrank outward toward the fenderwell. At the carb it's at just enough of an angle to prevent the end from inserting cleanly into the carb linkage.

Thanks Tom and yes that illustrates my problem. The mystery is why with correct intake, carb, spacer, bellcrank, and new rod it won't line up???

Bump. Does anyone have a photo or knowledge of a correct setup (with or without a bend) for this application? I am curious what is correct.
            Thanks!
