1967 Power Steering Fluid is Boling

I have rebuilt the control valve and have installed new lines. I have the piston rod unhooked so that I can avoid the steering wheel snap on start up. I did push the piston rod in and out to bleed the air out of the assembly. Now on start up the lines are HOT and the fluid has boiled. What did I do wrong????

    Thanks

    Greg -

Are the two lines to the power cylinder crossed (like an "X") where they exit the control valve?

Typically when the steering fluid "boils" and the pump makes a continuous groaning noise; that is an indication of blockage somewhere in the system. Since you are quite sure that you have the hoses attached correctly, are you sure that you reassembled the control valve correctly? Did you have the discharge fitting and flow control valve in the back of the pump disassembled? Did you put the flow control valve back into the pump with the spring correctly?

          Hi Jim,
I have not worked on the pump so I feel that it is not the source of my problem. The pump has a good history of not leaking and operating fine. I must have made a mistake when I assembled the control valve. I will dis-assemble and look for the blockage.

          Thanks
