    67 Body Build Date Puzzle

I was looking over a friend's 67 small block with him today. His trim tag shows a B26 date; his VIN is 00755. Engine stamp pad looked okay, based on my 8.2 level of experience, and matches the VIN tag. It's a 300 hp (V0906HE), and a St Louis body. Isn't this later date "B" code past the car's actual likely manufacturing time? Sorry, I have no photos to post.

Something is not right with that date. I recently reviewed pictures/documents for vin 776 for a friend to possibly purchase. It has a built date on the trim tag of B14 and the NCRS shipping report lists an official production date of 9/15.

      Brian -

Based on the VIN, that car was produced on either September 13th or 14th, so the "B26" (September 26th) on the trim tag makes no sense.

I think I've pointed this out on one of the forums before. Was the 776 car yellow:

        or white:

        or green:

I believe the yellow was a posting error that has never been corrected, but I never heard what the deal is with the other 2 cars.

As for the OPs question, b26 is definitely wrong and should be b14.

Actually, I was expecting the "B" to represent Oct and not Sept.
Were there "A" cars actually produced in August 66 then?

It's green now. That matches the trim tag picture they sent me.

Some confusion could be cleared up if we knew the body number off the trim tag. It could indicate that the b26 is a typing error. Anyhow, with a vin of 755, it should be b14.

I will try to get another look at the tag(s) this week, and see if I made an error myself.
Some other pointers: the trim tag says that it's a red/black convertible; I'm in Ft Wayne, IN; this car was a raffle prize obtained from a regional dealer.

I believe that production started mid August.

The numbering system changed Brian. I think it was after '64?
