Part Number for correct distributor cap

I have a 1960 with dual quad set up and dual point distributor. The correct cap is the D-305. I was looking on Ebay to buy one and found a few. The ones there are NOS service replacements for the most part. The ones I look at all have boxes labelled D305 or D-305, but there are two different part number for them. One list part number 1917247 and the other list part number 12338675.

Which part number is correct for my application? Or, are both correct?

    Thanks,

    Don

the 1917247 was the original number....Sounds like the first choice.

Here's one I have -- newer box than shown on the eBay link.

Question: as a C2 guy, how do you adjust the points on a running engine on a cap with no window(s) ?

Too early out west -- haven't finished my coffee.

Take the cap off, ground the coil wire, block one set of points, hook up the dwell meter, and adjust the points while cranking the engine. Do the same for the other set lf points. It's a pain since the points have the two screws for adjusting and not the Allen head adjustment.

Take the cap off and set them with a feeler gauge. Kevin 775

That's the way I always did it. Then, you can check the dwell with the engine running to make sure you got it right. Usually, if you get it adjusted with the feeler gauge you'll be right within the dwell range.

Keep in mind that there can be many "variations" WITHIN a particular part number. Of course, all of these "variations" will apply only to nuances. Functionally, any 1917247 or 12338675 will work perfectly. However, some 1917247 and all 12338675 will likely not garner full judging points.
