    do I have a 427/435 housing?

427 dist 3.jpgAre the tag #s correct the 1st #1 is stamped very lightly? I found this in a box of parts I had from the 70's, wondering if with a different tag can I use this in a 66 427/425 which needs a housing like this for the rear cam bearing oiling?

Is there provision for a vac canister-can't tell from the pics? If so, then this is a correct early BB distributor housing, as used on the 427/435HP your tag indicates or a 66 427/425HP you want to use it in.

You could use this housing for your application. However, you do not have to use this style housing. You can use the type with the full-round oiling, too. That type SERVICED all 62-74 applications. No one would ever know what type was installed in your engine. However, since you have the original style, you might as well use it.

Yes, the third picture confirms you have the correct housing for an early BB 65-67 427. Note: GM corrected/changed the block on the 396 in 67 and it no longer required the unique housing-it was not till 68 that the 427 was changed. The reason I asked to see the top, or at least ask about the vac canister provision is: the race intended #263 looks similar from the side (including the lower groove), but had ball bearing at the top and had no provision for a vac canister. The #263 unit would certainly work in your intended application, but would not pass judging, etc.
