    1963 Hub Cap

A few questions about 1963 Hub Caps. I have searched archives but no help there.

    1. Are there any numbers to identify the 63 hub cap?
    2. I am looking at a set and one has different head markings on the bolts holding the fins on. What should hold them on?
    3. What can you buy aftermarket? Fins and spinners?

I am looking at two different sets and the prices are quite a bit off and just don't want to make a mistake.

    Thank You.

    I'll give it a go.

There are no numbers on the hub caps.

I would not be concerned about the head marks. There were multiple suppliers of the bolts.

Both the spinners ( about $140.00 ) and bars ( about $425.00 ) can be purchased from Trim Parts. It's less expensive than trying to re-chrome the original parts.

All 63 hub caps have the same stainless steel shape. Now the interesting items. Best I can recall there are four different hubcaps. The Service Replacements had a thicker out rim, I have no idea why. Then there was the early frosted hub caps. Check your VIN for the switch over date.

So you have frosted with a thin outer and a thick outer and a non-frosted with a thin outer and a thick outer. The difference between the thick and thin outer is minimal but it is there and you can feel it and see it when you put a thin and thick side by side.

Comments Please as there was probably more than four.

That is why a restored set is so expensive. You start with $565 for the new parts then there is the labor cost to take out the dents, dings and scratches from the hub caps then add the polishing cost and profit. You easily get to $1000.00.

If you need steel wheels (5) that's another $2500.00 +.

This is why my restored wheels and hubcaps sit in the basement and I run $1900 bolt on aluminum knock offs with radial tires.

I am just wanting them for car shows etc. I am looking at two different sets; 450. and 600. The problem is, I don't even have the steel wheels yet, I assume Coker sells a replacement but I understand that the steel replacement wheel does not like the caps very much and I may damage the caps taking them on and off, which I would have to do for daily driving or shows and parades.

Maybe I will just do knock offs and everyone but enthusist will believe they are factory.

            Greg,

Try the driveline magazine for the caps and wheels, I am not sure what a set of wheels and caps are worth today. I don't think the repro knock off are cheap either.
