    Re: re Windshield replacement

Pilkington is the successor to the OEM. They can provide windshields that are as correct as possible (I understand that the tint band may not be as original). They can etch all of the data that was applied to your original windshield. I suggest that you contact a local company that installs auto glass, tell them you want a windshield from Pilkington, give them the exact specifications, let them place the order (and take responsibility for the new glass through installation), receive and install the glass. You can expect to pay the cost from Pilkington plus a fee for them handling the purchase, plus an installation fee. In my opinion it is a job for a professional.Doug

Thanks Doug. I agree to have a local company do the install. I have a lead. It will be a good time to buff the stainless .

Wayne, Doug is right. I called Pilkington "Classics Division" 1-800-848-1351 to help with my 88 windshield that my boys cracked when they used my car as a snow board ramp We still laugh about that one!! I also had to call my insurance Co to coordinate the "special request" (I do not have collector car insurance on the 88- I need to switch it over-) Good luck,

cool. As Doug mentioned, tell them your date code on the glass. Pilkington bought out LOF decades ago and they still have the original masks. They get the glass without info and put that in. I had to find a glass place that has an account with Pilkington and Pilkington gave me/them the part number for my year to order.

            Good Luck

Wayne be sure to order the USA made clips offered by Paragon and not the import clips. I just finished my '67 windshield installation this week, between the reproduction clips and the thicker Corvette Rubber gasket it was a PITA to seat that lower molding. I tried to install it a few months ago and it was just too cold, the rubber wouldn't compress enough. Last weekend it hit 70 here, rolled the car outside and after an hour in the sun the molding went on much easier.

Here are a couple picks if interested. The lower molding clips were rusted off. Looks like the trim was held on with the black tar . Missing 2 upper clips . I need to drill out the 4 lower clips that are to rusted to get the screws out . Seems who ever installed the moldings after it was painted had to use allot of puddy on the driver side frame . Is their any measurements to make sure the frame for the window is not bent ? Thanks
