1960 Radiotor cap

I purchased 2 reproduction AC 7 pound radiator caps. they have a metal gasket which does not seal the radiator with any success. I have a stant 7 lb that works correctly but is the wrong shape, neoprene type gasket. I purchased the first from CC and the last cannot remember both have the same problem. The neck is not bent or distorted. Any other source or ideas?

I had the same problem with a CC cap for my '57. Got an nos cap, problem solved.

Calvin is the seal in the NOS cap neoprene/rubber?

Yes it is. The material "looks like" the repro did, but the nos actually seals.

The ones I bought were metal and the CC was real loose the last one was tighter but still did not seal. I will be on the lookout for a NOS,
Rick I looked at Doc Rebuild he did not have a C1 cap and have sent a inquiry to Paragon see what they say. Theres looks like it is made in the USA the last one I got was an AC RC-1 made in INDIA.

I've had the same problem with the CC and Paragon ones. They don't seal very well. I did manage to fix the CC one by crimping the ears slightly on each side which makes the cap tight. I took 3 tries to get it, but it's fine now. I've driven the car for another 800 miles before putting away for the winter and have had no issues

Phil, just to be clear, I'm referring to the lowest (when installed) surface which seals against the main inlet of the radiator, not the metal disc next to the cap itself.

Calvin, I was referring to the top seal the pressure seal is neoprene. The stant that I have has neoprene on both seals and works like it should. I got a reply from Paragon saying the neck may be distorted but I have checked that.
Pat, I did bend the tabs some, maybe not enough on the second cap, I will try again that may cure the problem.
