Re: Spare Tire Lock and Rear Compartment Lock
In searching through some posts I have answered my question. Yes you can. Now, in order to use the "C " and "D" 1968 keys ,do I have to find a 1967 spare tire lock? Is there a part number on these locks. Thanks again.68 L79 Convertible: Triple Black: Work In Progress, Body off. Now on!

Re: Spare Tire Lock and Rear Compartment Lock
Jeff,
It is an easy thing for any locksmith to change the tumblers to match any key. Assuming that the glove box and spare tire locks are '68 locks, only the "D" key will go into them properly. The "C" key is for the ignition and doors. A '67 lock has an "A" and "B" key. If you need to buy a lock, one from a '68, '72, '76, or '80 will be the same. I hope this helps.

Re: Spare Tire Lock and Rear Compartment Lock
Jeff - Jeff Salz indicated the various keyways for the 67 & 68 locks and as noted the original 67 glove compartment & spare tire locks had the B keyway & used the B code key & the original 68 compartment & spare tire locks had the D keyway & used the D code key. These original locks had were specific keyway locks & were designed to accept only the corresponding code key. So finding an original 1967 spare tire lock that has the B keyway & uses the B code key is not the answer if you want a spare tire lock that will work & use a D code key. You'll want to find a D keyway spare tire lock. Pete- Top
