A few days ago one of my old Corvette friends was over (He owns 5 C1s) and we were discussing C1 paint. A question came up regarding Nitrocellulose and Acrylic lacquer. I know in 57 all paint was nitrocellulose except for Inca silver and Imperial Ivory (coves only) which were Acrylic. Acrylic was introduced sometime during the model year and cars so equipped were supposed to have a firewall mounted label indicating such, although I don't know if the label was ever incorporated.
Our question is which version of lacquer was used in 58 and later C1s, and without going into advanced college chemistry, what is the difference between the two lacquers? I have not been able find the to answer these questions in any of my documentation.
This is not something we really need to know, but rather for two old guys to learn more about these old cars.
Thanks guys, and I hope you all had a very good Easter holiday.
