    Spindle Rebuild

Is it possible to get a spindle rebuilt and who do you recommend? I'd like to keep my original front spindles but they are worn and need replacing. Thanks for any guidance.

Is it that the bearing is too sloppy on the spindle shaft? If that is the case then you can have the worn areas of your spindles hardchromed and machined back to size.

        Bill,
Just better to replace. Plenty of them out there used. There was a diameter change to the bearing size, I don't remember if it was in 68 or 69 so measure race size.

It's the shaft of the spindle and it's worn with grooves. Is there someone good who can re-chrome and machine or can many local machine shops handle? Thanks.

For this kind of repair you're probably going to have to look to the heavy truck/construction industry. They're the ones that get involved in hard chroming and subsequent machining. The problem is that I think you'll find the cost of it is far greater than the cost of a good used spindle. One caveat, though: the 1968 front spindles are unique to that year, so you can't obtain them from any other than a 1968 Corvette.

Once the rotor is removed. Do you just unbolt the ball joint nuts from the spindle or are they pressed in? What's the best way to remove? Thanks.

Bill,Take a couple of ball peen hammers ,rest one hammer against the spindle where the stud passes through, and take the other hammer and give the spindle a couple of sharpe blows to shock the spindle. When free the stud will be floating.
