    windshield installation

    I am getting ready to install my windshield in my 67 coupe and have been checking out the discussion board for help. It seems that the latest post was from 2009 and I was wondering if the same sealants and same techniques are still used or are there better ways to do this now? thanks, Dennis

    The sealant between the rubber and windshield frame is 3M Bedding and Glazing 8509. The flow grade sealant between the rubber and glass is 3M 8634 but it has been discontinued, I just bought a can on fleabay this week, the guy had 3 cans left yesterday. CRL makes a flow grade sealant as well CRL 1716. Then you need the pump for the flow grade sealant, it is CRL 181ag. Don't use urethane, it will not stick to the rubber, sticks great to the glass and steel but not to rubber.

      Dennis;

      Searching on the internet I found 3M 8509 but no mention of 3M 8909

      I also found at sarbco.com 3M 8634 3M window weld resealant so do I need 3M 8909 & 8634 products to re-install the windshield in my 65 conv. I removed when the car was repainted?

      Thank you very much.

        Sorry for the typo, I corrected the 3M P/N to 8509. The flow Grade material is much thinner and runnier to seal between the glass and rubber. BTW, Sarbco.com is no more.

          Thank you for your quick response. I will look for the products and hope to have a successful installation. As usual the response is very helpful. Thanks again, Dennis

            Scott,

            Sarbco's website still seems to work. And it still lists the 3M 8634 for $11.48. Does their website still work, but they are out of business?
