I just purchased a 68 convertible and have my work cut out for me. LOL . The air cleaner is an original with good silk screening underneath . Only thing is its very dirty. Gas vapors, oil, . What is a smart way to take most of this off without compromising the screening area. Thanks, Jeff

Re: Air cleaner lid cleanup
Jeff, I just did my 63 air cleaner lid and used chrome cleaner and very fine steel wool and looks like new.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Air cleaner lid cleanup
Jim, the top is great. A nice piece, except for the carb stains. Ed,might be a silly question but did you go over the screening lightly? Thank you all. Ill show results.68 L79 Convertible: Triple Black: Work In Progress, Body off. Now on!

Re: Air cleaner lid cleanup
Jeff, yes I did and the silk screening still looks good, I don't know how that stuff is applied but has held up well.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Air cleaner lid cleanup
I sprayed some simple green ,let it set for a few minutes then put 3 inches of Dawn in the sink and lightly rubbed with a 3M scotchbrite . Results were amazing . Ed you were right. What ever they used to silkscreen was very durable. I took before and after pics with the iPad but still won't work. It will work on the test page but not here. I'm sure it's me.Attached FilesLast edited by Jeff P.; March 30, 2013, 01:10 PM.68 L79 Convertible: Triple Black: Work In Progress, Body off. Now on!
