    283 Oil Pan (?)

Does anyone know what part number this oil pan is? The oil pan was selling for a 1957-61 Corvette original with 283 engine. I was told by the seller that the seal radius was 2-1/4 inches which seemed correct for my year. I'm looking for an original oil pan for my early 1960 with base 283, single 4BBL.

    Thanks in advance.

Looks pretty right to me. Ed Lepelis is very knowledgeable on those. You can contact him under "community" above. He knows all the nuances.

      Pete:

The pan you have pictured is correct for a 1960 230 and 245 hp cars. The 270 and 290hp engines used the "trap door pan".

Pete: I don’t believe the lower HP versions of the 1960 Corvette pan had multiple indentations like number 359937 has. (Your photos seem to agree.) I have viewed the blue-print for part number 3735642, which was used on 1960 “non-solid lifter” Corvette engine options. (This is the pan with a baffle, not the trap door.) Based on what I have so far, the two 1960 Corvette pans look very similar from the outside.

Front Seals: A service replacement with the trap door is part 359937. This pan is no longer available from GM, but shows up on e-bay from time to time. Part 359937 allows for, and in fact requires a thicker front seal. The curved opening in the front is slightly bigger than the older pans it “services”. This allows for easy removal of the timing cover.

Most of these words were extracted from an article about the trap door version. I think 3735642 is the pan you have pictured.

Am I correct to say that the 57 pan (all horsepowers), is the same as the oil pan for low horsepower motors for 60's, or 61's for that matter?

Thanks to all for the information. So it appears to be a 3735642 pan for 1957-60. I guess I wasn't sure about the inside baffle. I thought the baffle went about 2/3 the inside length. This baffle is short; almost like the trap door pan.
