For Sale and Want Ad section

The National Board of Directors has taken under consideration the proposal to establish an online ”For Sale and Want Ad” section. At the March Board of Directors meeting, a committee was established to investigate the required programming and financial impact and or the possibility of revenue production of implementing such a section. The report is due back by mid July at which time information on the findings will be posted. I would ask for your patience and understanding for allowing this process to be completed before making comments or drawing any conclusions. If you would like please contact me directly.

The board has approved an “Orphan “ section where members can post a thread to help put car owners and VIN related items together. That new section will be available shortly.

A big thank you to the Board. You can't ask for more than that. However, the other thread appears to have some bad information in it concerning the outcome of the meeting, related to this topic. I know that that thread was closed at around 6:30am, but Gary Chestnut's post with comments and the link to this thread got burried somewhere in the middle of that thread. I had to search through the thread to find them, and once I did I got to this thread. Gary, if you could repost your comments after the last post, members will be able to find this thread much more easily.

      Thanks.

        Ken,

Per your request, added a last post in the poll thread with a link to Vito's notice.

FWIW, the right hand side of the page shows the last post. Click on the little blue arrow to the right hand side of the time.

I was curious about advertising on another Corvette Forums site. The response I got from them was that there were 500,000 unique visitors a month, and that the most basic supporting vendor/advertising package (ie the cheapest) on that site is $325 PER MONTH.
I counted roughly 225 vendors in their lists... which, using the minimum pricing structure... means that forum is generating over $73,000 PER MONTH... or almost $876,000... per year.

Most other Forums are free to the general public to browse and post on. With a NCRS memberhip required to use this forum it does limit who will stop by and see any advertising. Not sure if it is possible, but perhaps the For Sale section could be open to the general public?

If Joe Blow is looking for a 1974 Corvette radio and a google search brings him to the NCRS For Sale section that he can't access, he most likely will not join NCRS just to purchase the radio.

How about making the For Sale Forum available only to members to post and purchase and then make it available to non-members to purchase only (such as a visitor). This way you can expose them to the Driveline advertisers on the For Sale Forum as well as encougaging them to become members where they can then post and purchase.

                    Greg,

On the "other forum" you are allowed to post for sale advertisements for FREE.

                    That is for non-commercial sellers.

Supporting members (commercial sellers) do pay what I consider a large fee but apparently the benefits offset the cost.

Give the seller/item wanted person a choice NCRS only listing or general listing.

Hummmm, "revenue production", sounds like the government not a Corvette Enthusiasts Club.

While revenue production does sound a little capitalistic it is a necessary part of any organization. I joined NCRS in 1974 and I think the dues were $25 per year. I could buy a new Corvette for $6000. with the price of a new Corvette today our dues would be about $250 per year if it weren't for other ways NCRS makes money to keep dues as low as possible.

Costs of everything NCRS does have gone up substantially in the last 39 years not to mention additional benefits such as this website that are provided. Unlike Congress the Board of Directors looks at the bottom line on everything they do.

BTW we make good progress in selecting and piloting a possible Classified Ad solution... From the technical side we haven't encounter much difficulties so far.

Lets hope we can get it financially feasible as well so the board can give the green light to continue making the Classified Ad solution available at the National board meeting.
