stopping rust on the inside of my chrome bumper

what is a good product to stop and prevent any more rust on the inside of my 1966 front bumper? Does one paint the inside after the rust is neutralized? Dutch

    Dutch,
If you are not showing your car you may paint the inside of the bumpers. If NCRS or Bloomington judges find the paint there will be a small deduct. If you want your cake and like eating it also try cleaning all rust out and apply some "PRELUBE SIX". It will last several months before needing to be reapplied. Back to the garage! Bill

I use a coat of Fluid Film . You can get it in a spray can or by the gallon .

If your not showing your car I recommend removing all the loose rust and then topcoating the inner bumper with ZRC Galvalite. This is a cold galvanizing product containing 95% Zinc which is used on bridges, antenna towers, etc. I have tried other gold galvaning products which have not held up at all. This product has worked extremely well for me and can be topcoated. Check your local welding suppliers to see if they carry it since it is often used to top coat welds. Properly prep the inner bumper, put two coats on and never think about it again. Available in quart or spray can. The quart can weighs around 6 lbs. It is extremely thick and can only be brushed on but offers great protection. I used the spray can for my inner bumpers but use the quart for all sorts of other uses. It you can't find locally, you can order direct from www.zrcworldwide.com

Dutch, remove the rust and paint it. You can use silver or clear, but you want to try to mimick the original sheen of the partial chrome plating. Somewhere back in the archives there's something on it, this is only one thread:

So for showing a car, like the survivor cars that show a wet coat of something - the choice is???

Try some Gibbs brand, ultra lubricating, surface preservative. Not sold in stores, internet only. I have coated sheet metal surfaces over a year ago, still no sign of rust or oxidation and I live in high humidity Florida. As suggested by the manufacture, I painted right over the Gibbs after applying a coating to my SD 455 engine. Search Gibbs on the internet and on this site for more information.

Try RPM Rust preventive magic. Great product and will leave bare metal looking new for a long time. Easy to apply. That is what I am using on my newly chromed bumpers and other stuff. Even going to use it to protect bare differential casting. Think it costs about $34. Like it a whole lot better than cosmoline. Salt spray test results are impressive too.

Google it and you will see some excellent write ups. Plus it dries quickly and will not attract dust and dirt.
