    63 SWC - new wiring harness gremlins.....help???

Thanks again in advance of all your help:

    First the preliminaries.

    1) gauge cluster done and bench tested in my presence before dinner by good friend Bill Harrison.... Great seafood place... Thanks Bill!

    2) interior gutted and new lectric limited wiring harness, dynamat etc.

    3) installed bench tested gauge cluster w/o steering column in.

    4) finally hooked up battery with fire extinguisher ready...... No issues

    5) BTW have all wiring diagrams, dr. Rebuild schematics, AIM etc .... Every recommended book and followed to the letter.

What works in first power up: without steering column in

    A) starts and runs like a champ

    b) all courtesy lights works perfectly as does door switches

    C) head lights works as do high beams and door freely rotate up to open. Dash warning light flashes as headlight door opens.

    D) oil pressure gauge works

    E) radio works and lights in radio work

    F) clock works and lights up

    G) tach works

    H) heater fan blows hard

    WHAT DOESN'T WORK:

    1) I now have no brake lights ( I did with old harness!!)

    2) temp gauge pegs to right

    3) no parking brake warning light

    4) no dash lights (except clock)

    5) full gauge pegs over full ( to the right)

    6) when I turn on ignition both turn signal lights on dash turn on as does high beam indicator light.

I believe I have gauge cluster ground plug attached at top of cluster nd z bar ground wire near radio is good.

Is the fact steering column is not in yet causing these issues?

Wanted to check for issues before buttoning up and installing rebuilt column.

Any help on this is appreciated. I can post any picture requests that may help solve this...

    Thanks in advance!!!!!

Also, If the car is on the frame make sure the ground strap that connects to birdcage on drivers side is attached.

Steve, I have seen quite a few posts on problems with lectric limited haresses, Wires that may not be routed into the correct pins. If after what Mike is telling you to do does not help. I would check the old and new harnesses side by side. It surly sounds like the is something feeding these other circuts.

Agree with Mike, you need the directional switch installed for Brake Lights to function.

The fact that clock light works is because it has it's own Ground wire connected(Blk/Wht) via the 2 terminal connector. This tells me your Z-bar ground is good.....edit and yourGray circuit for the lamp from the fuse panel is good, and likely all Gray circuits to all dash bulbs is good.

The fact that you have no Dash lights tells me you have no Cluster Ground(Blk/Wht). This could cause other oddities like you're seeing also. Ground also passes through (Blk/Wht) in firewall connector to Fuel Sender. Park Brake lamp issue could be missing ground also at the cluster.

For a test, attach a known good ground wire jumper to the cluster metal housing. If that works you likely have lost the cluster ground terminal connection at top of cluster, or a open in the Blk/Wht wire going there.

            Thanks for advice.
It ended up being a ground issue.
black / white wire came off ground connector at top of cluster when .

            everything now works great, .....!!!
