    68 Build Info

Attached is a photo my Tank Sheet. I was just curious that it states "Date Received" as 11/28/67, "Exp. Date of Production" 12/29/67. The date stamp on the Trim Tag as being F22 ( January 22, 1968). Did it really take that long to build or was this due maybe to the two holidays during the time the order was received until the actual build date? The car was delivered to Shalla Chevrolet in Detroit and on Febuary 1, 1968, and turned over to the original owner.

    Hello Jack,
Chevrolet had a delay in start building coupes.
What about all the ordered cars before this one was ordered 11-28-67 they were built on hold?
This may explain the time lag.
    Regards,
    Drew Papsun

Drew. Good point. Mine is #9643. Probably one of the first coupes to be built. I know there are a few even earlier than mine.

I know of one coupe that was ordered in August 1967 and arrived at the dealership in March 1968.

          Jack,

Just as a reference, my convertible rolled off the line just behind yours (F23 / #9736) and the order was placed on January 12, 1968.

            Hi Jack,
I notice on your Corvette Order Copy the Rear Window Defroster has a line drawn through it. Was the rear defroster not intsalled at St. Louis ?

              Hello Lawrence,
The item with the line drawn through it is to let the plant worker know that the rear window defroster is not to be installed at assembly.
The rear window defroster was not available in the factory when the car was scheduled to be built.
The dealer was notified prior to the scheduled build time.
The item was on hold and would be released later to fill the order.
The dealer would contact the buyer notifiying them of this issue.
The two choices for the buyer would be that the car could be built without the rear window defroster on schedule, or they could wait until the part was available to be built sometime in the future.
              Regard,
              Drew Papsun

Larry. Drew is right. Mine doesn't have the rear window defroster installed.
