    Shift cable rubber boot

Hello all! I am trying to locate a part for my '69 automatic transmission. On the end of the shifter cable that attaches to the transmission, there is a rubber boot or bellows. Mine is in several pieces. I have looked through the catalogs of all the usual vendors and cannot find this boot. I can buy the whole cable with the boot attached but I just want to buy the rubber part. Anybody know of a source? Thanks.

    Jeff,

Even Doc Rebuild's catalog doesn't show it, and if it's a rubber part and he doesn't have it I can't imagine who would.
You may have to see if an industrial supply or "real" tractor/farming store has something similar you can adapt.

      Jeff,
I may have a good used piece.
I'll contact you for your address if I have one.

Patrick- Thanks for the reply. I also checked them, Paragon, Corvette Central, Eckler's, Zip, etc. nothing.
George- A good used one would be even better. Thanks for checking.

It looks like it is only sold when you purchase the shift cable as an assembly. Here is one from Corvette Central

I looked and the only decent on I have has a tear at the bottom end---sorry.

Have you tried GM? Lots of shifter cables have rubber boots. Take the part or a picture, go to the local GM parts counter and maybe they'l have a part that matches.

What's really frustrating about searches for parts like this is that the entire assembly is being reproduced meaning somebody is making (or buying) the individual parts like this boot. I just got off the phone with NPD who sell a repro cable assembly with the boot for Camaros, Chevelles, etc. The fellow who I spoke to had no idea who the vendor is that they buy these from as I would contact them and see if they could sell me one. This approach worked well when I needed an A/C part and they directed me to their supplier who did have what I needed and sold me the part. Any other ideas?

I'd call Paragon, identify yourself as a MI Chapter member (officer) and see if Steve will tell you the supplier.
Alternately, ask the local Napa where they source it from and work backwards that way.

                      Mike-----

The auto trans cable boot was never available from GM as a separate part. I doubt whether such boots were available separately for non-Corvette cables, either.

The complete cable assembly is still available from GM under the original part number, GM #3958079. For how much longer, who knows? GM list price is about 98 bucks, but it can be purchased for quite a bit less than that.

                        Jeff,
I've bought them thru WEST MARINE (Quicksilver Marine Parts). If you post a picture and length i might have something around here that might be the samething. Just a thought.

                          Here's one at West Marine:

Also, if you Google "cable boot" and look at images you'll probably find what you need. Follow the image link back to the original page and see if you can find what you need.

Patrick- I did what you suggest. The good news is I found the exact one pictured. The bad news is that it is from a supplier India. I would probably have to buy 50,000 to get one. My guess is that this is the manufacturer that supplies those who make the whole assembly.

George- Thanks for offering to send me the one you have. This is what is great about this forum- people who want to help.
