    Engine Lift Bracket

I've noticed that my '73 L82 4spd has the passenger side lift bracket attached to the rear of the head. The judging guide states that it should be on the passenger's side bell housing to block attaching bolt on sb's and to the rear of the head for LS4 engines. Has anyone seen an original sb with the lift bracket on the head?

It's possible it was changed, but the majority of the car is very original - A.I.R., vacuum lines, hoses, clamps... so I'm just curious.

    Thanks for the help,

Chris, pretty sure that bracket goes on one the bell housing bolts just below where it is.My guess is someone had the engine or trans. out and moved the bracket to the cylinder head, some one was thinking thats where it belongs.

IF the bracket was painted ON the bell housing originally the attaching bolt and washer on this one has no paint which could indicate replaced bolt/washer and possibly moved location of the bracket. I will see if I have any pics of my L-82 brackets before I pulled the engine and trans.

Chris, The answer is in the second picture -- in the mirror the bolt head and washers are unpainted. The hook was installed before engine paint at Flint and the attaching bolt would have had paint on it if it was originally installed at the engine assembly plant. In fact the engine was hanging from that hook, and the one on the intake while it was being painted. Ed has offered the likely explanation.

I guess the old saying of "great minds---" is true and we think it at the same time. Does the AIM show anything?

We were more at the same time than the post time shows. I started the post and was distracted by of all things someone wanting me to work -- or I would have tied or even beaten you by a little. It was a tough day at work today and I even managed to get a little relief by reading and posting here.
