Isn't it possible that there may have been more than one jack manufacturer for the late 1970's Corvette jacks?

In my collection of scissor jacks I have some Corvair jacks made by AUSCO (stamped "A") and some made by Ryenson & Haynes (RH INC.).

i do not believe there are two manufacturers for the late 70s jacks, but there is a change in the manufacturer. the new manufacturer (smp, slant manufacturing products, logo found on base) evidently made new dies and if a dimension was not properly read off a blueprint it could change the width of the jack. since it was not a part that was made by chevy, i could see where a change might not be noticed and not updated in chevy part books till much later.

        John,

You are probably correct. I do have a few late 1970's Firebird bumper jacks with "SMP" stampings in my collection. I have always wondered what the "SMP" stood for.

from the restorer: SMP, Seeburn Metal Products. 76-82 dimensions are the same.
