    Kingpin Caps

    Hi all,

Is there a source for the metal caps that go on the spindle on either end of the kingpin? I checked Zip and CC and the caps come in the entire kit, but not alone.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Aren't the caps either Welch plugs or concave expansion plugs? Any auto parts store (in particular, one with a Dorman catalog) should be able to get you as many as you need.

Are you talking about the VERY shallow cupped shape caps (2 per kit) that only go on the TOP of the spindle after you are completely finished replacing the kingpin/bushings, OR, are you talking about the welch plugs that go on each of the spindle bores and are retained by a snap ring?
The shallow cupped shape caps ONLY go on the top, AND, if you tap them in too hard, they will become distorted and will NEVER stay in. The top end of the spindle bore (where these caps fit) needs to be totally clean and dry (thoroughly clean out any residual grease with brake cleaner, lacquer, etc) the step where these caps fit and GENTLY tap them in place.
Also, save your old ones, they may fit tighter.
Those little caps for the top are NOT available anywhere, except in a kit.
The welch plugs that go in each end are difficult to find in the correct size. You MAY find the correct size welch plug from some parts store that carries Dorman brand products.
