I have my 1971 LT-1 completely taken apart, paint is removed and I am next going to clean up the body, prime and paint. I have a couple questions, on the line when the Corvette was built were the doors installed when painting was done, also the headlight doors?, if the doors were on, were there any areas that saw no paint?, and if the headlight doors were on was the car painted with them open, or closed? I am almost sure the hood was on during paint, next question are there any photos of the Corvette factory paint booth photos any place, I have looked, and I don't think there are any, but thought I would ask. I am going to try to paint this car as close to what the factory did, we will see, but that is my goal, I know there are a lot of experts in NCRS, so I am picking some brains, thanks in advance, Ron

Re: 1971 Coupe paint question
Your right what a great set of photos, and yes I am getting the picture, the paint process done in those days was nothing special. I now know how they did most, but a few more questions, when the car was painted with the headlight doors on, and the main doors on, are the areas behind the door hinges unpainted?, and if so what is there, gray primer, red primer, or nothing?, also when the body was painted some over spray went in the headlight area, I see on the 72 some yellow inside the headlight workings, but it looks like some of the hardware was installed after paint, I think, also I think the blackout process was done only from the top in the engine compartment, so lower areas were unpainted, it's falling in place, thanks to the reply's, it helps a lot, Ron- Top
