    Dick,
    are you sure it's a 3.70? 3000rpm at 70mph sounds like a 3.36.

      [QUOTE=George Jerome (31887);655343]Dick,

      Yes it is a 3.70:1 ratio. I took out a 3.36 OEM R & P and rebuilt it with a new 3.70 gear set. A good rule of thumb to follow is 70MPH=3.70 in 4th gear with a standard sized tire in the 205-70 X 15 or a 215-70 X 15 range. The best way to determine your gear ratio is to measure the "loaded rolling radius" of a rear tire and do the math. Mine runs 3000 @ 70 in 4th and 1900 @ 70 in 5th with the Tremec using 215-70 X 15 Michelin Hydro-Edge Radials

        Dick,
        see the attached site. Your hydro-edge tires should be about 26.9" in diameter. Using the site, you are going 65mph. You would need a 3.36 to go 71mph. This coincides with my car which has a 3.36 and I pull 3000rpms at about 70mph.

          Thank you George, I stand corrected. You are right. I had never seen that website before, but it certainly is good!
          My posting started with a request of members to find a good source for rebuilding a Muncie transmission. Do you know of any rebuilders in your area that you would have do your transmission work?
          Sincerely, Dick

            Dick,
            my reason for pointing this out was so that you could be sure of your rear end ratio before changing out the trans. I had a '66 L72 and had no problem with it having a 3.36 rear, but you might be used to the, I am sure, explosive acceleration you have now, and not like the 2.20 first gear with this rear end. Best of luck.
