    New Engine problem

So yesterday I was out on a cruise for about 2 hours as I come down my street the car starting missing really bad and the tach stop working the same time. It will start up but it is very rough and running rich as crap. So I'm thinking I need re-do the timing again. Why did the Tach stop at the same time the car starting running bad? Its 427/400 with PG

John, It sounds like you maybe dumping to much fuel in the carb. when car is running with air cleaner lid off, Take a look down the throat of the carb. and see if fuel is dripping or pouring into the carb. while its running. The tach is mechanical I cannot relate the running problem with this, unless someone else has seen something like this before.( maybe dist shaft possibily really sloppy.)

Yeah the Tach is messing with my mind, I don't understand how it went bad the same time the car starting running like crap. Its been running awesome without any problems and this poped up instantly without any warning signs.

Makes me wonder if the Distributor hold down clamp came loose and the distributor twisted and broke the cable. Just a thought. I always have a mark on my cars distributor housing and block so i can view the marks quickly after a Power Run. Something might have failed inside the Dist. housing. Pull out the timing light and check your timing.

Check the distributor, if the tach cable broke, or more likely the tach drive gear broke, it can cause the distributor to turn and affect timing.

              John------

Corvette distributor tachometer gears fail all the time; that's not rare, at all. It is somewhat less common that engine problems are caused by it but I'd say that's exactly what happened in this case. It's WAY too much of a coincidence that the tach drive gear failed at the exact moment that some other, non-distributor-related problem also occurred. Remove the distributor and check it out.
