Does anyone know where I can purchase the plastic caps that go on the rivets on the steering coupler for a 1967. Thanks, Dennis

Re: caps for steering rod coupler
They were supplied with some SERVICE coupler assemblies but were never available from GM separately in SERVICE. If anyone has them separately it would likely be Long Island Corvette Supply. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: caps for steering rod coupler
I believe that you are talking about these plastic spacers that help align the steering column to the steering gear. Don't forget that these spacers were removed at St. Louis after the steering column was aligned and installed. St. Louis than pulled the spacers and either threw them away or sent them back to Saginaw to be reused.

Yes, that's why I've always wondered why anyone would want these things. To assume that one's car is among those that the spacers were left on in error seems like a "stretch" to me. It would seem to me that typical factory production was without the spacers. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: caps for steering rod coupler
The first application that I have for 7806939 spacers was on the 7806391 coupling assembly. The coupling assembly was 1969 SOP to mid-year. The spacers were added to the drawing on 4/27/1968. The spacers continued to be used on the 7818568 coupling assembly (late 1969 through 1982.)
There was a rubber part called a rivet cap 7800470. It was installed on the 1967 flex coupling assembly 5699250. Released for production date was 11/24/1965. It was removed from the drawing on 3/21/1967.

This must be the part that Dennis was inquiring about. I am unfamiliar with it. It was never available separately in SERVICE from GM.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
