Ron - What are you trying to prove? A car you bought in 68, 5 years old? For what $1500, by the early 70's the c2's were nothing more than cheap used cars. No one was faking anything until 80 or later when the value started to pick up.

              Ron,
I'm trying to prove that this an original big tank car, as you may know the tank wasn't offered to the general public until
December 21, 1962. My car is an early November car. To restore a car it would be nice to know what your dealing with.
It takes a LOT of money to restore these old cars.

Where is the GM brain trust. They did not give the general public the first car, they ran prototypes and then they ran pre production prove-out units November is not suprising for an added option like this. Wile getting up in age, there should be people out there that know when they first ran the preproduction units.

1963 Pilot units were built in May, June and July, 1962, and included the N03 car below and several others.

Ron your not going to prove what you car is over the phone or on line, bring it to a Regional or National and have some of the 63 guys look at it in the parking lot. unrestored car should take 5 minutes. You don't have to enter it for judging. Phil 8063

                        Re: 63 tanker(prove it)

Roy, your exactly correct. I've had a so called expert who was well known actually see the car and said the car definitely appears to be original. Also, shown pictures to one of the Nabor Brothers and K McKay who both agreed it looked original. So I'm thinking about taking the car to Bloomington this June if I can line up someone their to document the car as authentic. What's so perplexing is the date of the car, and the options of fuel car with radio delete and power brakes and racing seat belt with the two rounds holes on the quarters and once painted a bright blue metal flake paint.

Ron...why don't you bring it to an NCRS regional event and have it judged...then you would really get a good opinion of what you have

None taken Roy, But the 63 guys I was talking about were the same 63 guys that judge the cars inside. Phil 8063

Just found a copy of an unofficial survey that has been kept of the Z-06 tankers. It has eight documented cars built under serial #1,000 Doesn't prove anything but does show that there were cars built. Probably more than one ended up on the street. Two of those cars, according to the survey, had heaters. Why were heaters installed unless they were going to be street cars? Who knows?

All were sold/given to race car drivers/teams such as

Ron -- You should try and contact Eric Gill, who wrote several articles on '63 Z06 and their big tanks, back in RESTORER Vol 6#3 and Vol 8#3. Don't know if he's still a member; last time I saw him was in Port Orange FL. He restored some of those early racers.

If I'm not mistaken, Eric provided Noland Adams with much of the info on the Z06 production (Vol 2, pgs. 176 thru 181).
