I thought that terminal was to provide 12V (wthout resistance) to the coil while cranking only and was one of the two wires attached to the same terminal at the coil. One wire was the resistance wire (or run through the ballast) and the other comes from the starter with full voltage during cranking. If I am mistaken, someone please correct me. In the case of a TI equipped car and no ballast, Is a resistor wire used or does it use full voltage? I have no experience with TI and was just curious. Chip.

Al, the contact on the pink wire terminal inside the starter solenoid has failed and when it does you loose pink wire voltage to the coil. Scott

Not true.

The starter solenoid, when actuated, will bypass whatever ballast function is present (be it resistance wire or ballast resistor). However, the ballast and coil will receive current directly from the ignition switch at all other times.

To Al Young, I see you got a lot of replies. Did you check to see if the drive cable is broken. Might also be rounded off at the distributor end. JD

I still think it is an ignition switch. I had one do this exact thing years ago. The run contacts in the ignition were all arced up.

Al, I'm looking at the AIM for the '65 car UPC12 Sheet A9, Also shown in the wiring diagram, Sheet D-1 UPC 12. If you find the appropriate wires and install a ballast resistor, I think your problems will be solved. Sorry to take so long, but I have been a little busy lately.

So, what is the latest?

Thanks for all your help. Ihave been chasing this thinking it was electrical, but I think it is the FI fuel pump. Per JD, I checked the FI drive cable, and it was OK- but I ran it with a drill motor and it was locked up. So, I think we have a start on the cure. I'll let you know what transpires. wait...cable was OK but pump was locked up? This is odd. I happen to know that the pump will break the cable. May want to check drive for pump inside distributor while your at it. Jerry
