    '65 Spring/Strut Rod Colors

I have sent the trailing arms off my '65 Coupe (TF 11/12) to
Bair's for a rebuild. I am taking apart the spring and painting all components back there. Can someone give me some advice of the color for the spring and the strut rods. The NCRS manual talks about a 'grey' color. Which vendor makes the best color match? Tks for any help/advice.

If the spring has not been apart in the past think about replacing the liners when you paint it. Bair's sells a rebuilt kit with paint, liners and a replacement bolt for about $60.00. Just look at the bolt head in comparison to the original as it may need to be ground down.

On the struts, cast blast seems to work. As I recall the originals were natural steel thus the nice rust patina.

Originally the spring was painted with Ionoklad. Quanta sells a rattle can that matches the color. I plan on disassembling mine and media blasting, priming with epoxy primer then using the Quanta product. Reassemble replacing the center bolt and liners. Quanta also sells a rebuild kit that includes a bushings, liners paint & center bolt. I'm not sure how correct the liners are however.

This is good video with Jeff Salz from the Michigan Chapter on rear springs and the restoration of them.
