    C2 (64) - Minor questions

Seat Belt date codes: Mine are 36A63. I'm guessing this is week 36 of 63 which makes sense for my car, but what does the A mean?

Floor Mats: I always assumed they came with all cars but looking at Vette Vues I see them shown as a dealer option and I don't recall seeing an option code for factory order. Were they dealer installed only? or were the dealer option mats something different from the clear plastic?

Holes in right inner fender: my car has two 1/4 holes horizontally spaced about 2 inches apart just rear of the altenator lower edge in the inner fender. I'm assuming they are not original, but were they? Can anyone suggest anything aftermarket that these might have been for?

      Hi Larry,

I know that the seatbelt codes have been discussed and the info is in the archives, but I'm too lazy to look right now (you can). With that said, I want to say the A stands for day of the week .... A=Monday. Or, perhaps it was the shift. I can't remember.

Cool that they are still legible.

Larry, please post picture of seat belt label - there are two possibilities for these (some may still argue that)

Alan, here it is - the best of my four.

Also, does your car have the holes in the inner fender?

The info about the letter being for day of week was an error that got into a lot of previous JGs. We have removed it from the revised 1968-69 and 1970-72; I don't know about the C2s. Someone (I believe John Hinckley) informed us that the letter is an internal code for the plant, probably the assembly line that made the belt.

Did 63/64 belts have a date code stamp? First one I've seen.

Alan - I have four belts and four codes so to speak. The picture is the best one, another is readable without much imagination, the third is readable if you know what the code is and the fourth is not readable, just some black ink residue. I was glad to see them, lets me know the belts are original.

Larry, The holes that you are speaking could be from a after market alarm sytem, alarm pin switchs?? look at the hood above the drilled holes to see if there are imprints, sometimes the pins switchs will leave a mark.

Well look at 1967 Seat Belts

shows a 64 label with date code. That is a belt made in year 1964 - starts in Jan not the beginning of MY 64 those would be 1963 belts.

My 64 car was built 11/25/63. Belt date of 36A63 (late September I think) makes sense.

In the aim manual under air conditioning you will find the answer about the holes. Page d3.00 shows a picture of the bracket that is attached to the inner fender well to hold the coolant lines running to the water pump. Also look at page d6.00 to see the other bracket use to secure the refrigerant hoses running forward to the condenser and dryer.

I have five pairs of orignal 64 seat belts, some with Corvette some with Chevrolet, wording none of the have a date stamp like the one in the picture. To my knowlege no 64 was stamped like that.

Wow!!! Good reply Norm. Nice to see you aboard.
Two weeks ago Ken Americk came to my house to look at my 63 FI car. He pointed to the same two holes near the hood support/alternator and asked me what I thought the holes were for as his 63 had the same holes. Now we all know. Thanks, JD

                              Re: C2 (64) - Minor questions

                              Two things.

                              1. Maybe my seatbelts are repros and they ordered a date, even if not correct. If you didn't own the car from new you never know. But two of the four are pretty faded and one just traces of ink. I dont' know that it is established that 64's didn't have dated belts yet, but I'd like to know. As a corolary, the Adams book did a survey which showed that stamping the SN on FI units was inconsistent at first.....so sometimes things get phazed in inconsistently.

                              2. There are two sets of holes in AIM for A/C as mentioned above, one over the stapled mud shield and one about 5 1/2 inches back of it, and both would be in a vertical line. The first says drill the existing dimples and I still have the dimples. 5 1/2 inches back would put the other set pretty close to the expansion tank. The ones I have are on a horizontal line approx in line with the top set of staples in the mud shield about 2 1/2 adn 4 1/2 inches back from the edge of that shield. Probably some user mod that isn't there anymore but I'm just asking.
