    C1 Front Hood Weatherstrip

I searched and found a number of posts, but I found two pictures that show this piece in two slightly different locations.

If you look at the picture I have posted, one shows the weatherstrip attached to what I am calling the bigger ledge under the hood. This ledge is further toward the front of the hood/nose of the car. The second picture shows the weatherstrip attached at what I am calling the smaller ledge. This is more toward the rear. This photo also is purported to be on an unmolested original car.

    Thanks,

Thanks for this intersting thread. My 1960 Corvette does not even have such a front hood weatherstrip. But there should be one, right?

Yes. I found there is some question as to when they started putting these on. But for judging it is better to have it. Should not loose any points for having it, but could lose some if it is not there.

There is no front weatherstrip on C1 Corvette hoods, to the best of my knowledge.
There is one on the back edge of all C1s and C2s.

My 1960 has the weatherstrip on both the front and back of the hood.

Bruce per TIM & JG "Sometime in early 1959, a black rubber seal was added to the forward underside area of the hood panel, sealing off the radiator skirt when the hood is down." See the pictures I posted, the one on the right is purported to be an original unmolested 60 that I found a good picture of the forward underside of the hood. The other picture was posted by John Hinkley in another thread on this same subject that I found searching the forum.

My 1960 also has the weatherstrip on front and back of the hood. If memory serves me, my front weatherstrip is located like in photo 2. I can verify when I get out of work.

Don, my w/s is in the position shown by the "unmolested" 1960 and I have never received a deduct for the position. If it was mounted at the upper location, it would not make the proper seal on the front top edge of the radiator.

                  Re: C1 Front Hood Weatherstrip

I mixed up the photos in my previous discussion. My seal is mounted like the photo on the left. Upon closer inspection of the photo on the right, the "unmolested" 1960, it sure looks an original location based on the sloppy manner in which the adhesive was smeared on the hood.

Just because I did not receive a deduct for the location the seal, doesn't mean it is in the proper place, but the judges have been happy with it. It merits further investigation to see if another unmolested car has the same mounting location.

I have a link to Thomas Hoyer's photobucket of a 1960 car and it appeared to have been a fairly original car before restoration. Take a close look at the photo and see if it doesn't look like there is a seal in the same place depicted in Don's first post.

Here are some photos of my '60 hood and the ledge seal specifically. It was old and hard and had the part # stamped into the rubber. I am convinced that it is absolutely original.
