    Wiper Arms for C2

My 1966 Coupe has new reproduction wiper arms and they fit loose on the post. The post has ridges or groves on it to match up with the groves in the wiper arm. The Auto Parts store said that there was a "repair Bushing" similar to the press on bushing for a harmonic balancer oil seal surface. They looked and couldn't find it. Does anyone know of such a repair part? It seems that it would be a shim of sorts that would make for a tighter fit on the wiper transmission shaft. I have tried to search for the item but I am not sure of what to call it.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Paul:

I have never seen that problem before. Are you saying the arm when installed does not rotate when the wipers are turned on? If it is really loose then I would suggest they have not given you the right size arms. It should slide on easily with the grooves locking it on the post and the heavy spring tension of the arm should hold it in place. Doesn't the spring tension of the arm put enough tension on it so it does not come off easily? They can be a pain to get off even with the proper tool if fit is too tight.

Thanks for the reply. The arm does not retain it's position when activated. It is slipping on the shaft or whatever it is called. The previous owner must have had this problem because the original wiper arms were deformed with a pair of pliers (which left ugly marks) so it would fit tighter on the shaft. I ordered new reproduction wiper arms and the removal tool. They went on easily but were not held tight enough to prevent slipping on the shaft. I put some metallic tape on the shaft last night and that seemed to tighten up the fit. I would just like to find the bushing that was mentioned previously to fix it properly.

Any here knows if you can buy just the "clip" that you must pull up for taking off the wiper arms?
I have a set of extra arms but one wiper arm is missing the "clip" so that is why i ask

Paul, If you truly have a bad fit of the arm on the post a "tolerance ring" may help. A tolerance ring is a very thin brass or stainless designed to take up clearance between ball bearings and the bore to create a press fit. Ya insert it in the hole and press the bearing. A small section of thin "tolerance ring" and tap on arm with a rubber mallet may fix ya up.
