What kind of finish was on the base plate on 1957 2X4 Air cleaner. The part that sets on the Carburetor. I do not think it was cadmium like the Reproductions are .

I have a '57 270 that I have had for 40 years. I purchased it from the original owner with 67,000 miles on it. All the original parts are still on
the car and in working order. I removed one of the air cleaners today and took some photos 's. The base of the air cleaners is a ferrous material
and appears not to be cadmium plated. The material looks to be mild steel with some kind of coating on the surface maybe pickling but its difficult
to be 100% sure. If you have additional questions I will be glad to reply. PS this is a non restored car.
